Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, under the Department of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh Administration, has released an advertisement for 17 Assistant Professor posts across 13 medical departments. These posts are being filled on a contract basis as a stopgap arrangement for up to one year, or until the regular incumbent joins through UPSC, New Delhi, whichever is earlier. Who Can Apply?

For most specialties (Anesthesiology, Anatomy, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Pathology, Radiodiagnosis, TBRD):

• A basic MBBS degree or equivalent qualification included in the Schedules to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956
• Must be registered in a State Medical Register or the Indian Medical Register
• A relevant MD/MS/M.D./M.S. degree in the concerned specialty from a recognized University/Institution or equivalent
• 3 years of teaching experience in the concerned specialty as Resident/Registrar/Demonstrator/Tutor in a recognized Medical College/Teaching Institution

For Neonatology:

• MBBS degree (First or Second Schedule or Part II of Third Schedule to IMC Act, 1956)
• Doctorate of Medicine (Neonatology) or Diplomate National Board (Neonatology); OR Doctor of Medicine (Paediatrics) or DNB (Paediatrics) with 2 years Special Training in Neonatology
• 3 years teaching experience as Senior Resident/Tutor/Demonstrator/Registrar in the concerned specialty or super-specialty in a recognized teaching institution after obtaining the first postgraduate degree

For Pharmacology and Physiology (additional non-medical route):

• Route A (Medical): MBBS + MD or Ph.D. in the concerned subject from a recognized University/Institution
• Route B (Non-medical): M.Sc. (Medical Pharmacology/Medical Physiology) + Ph.D. or D.Sc. in the subject from a recognized University
• Note: For Anatomy, the quota of non-medical teachers has been exhausted — non-medical persons will NOT be appointed against the said post.
• 3 years teaching experience as Resident/Registrar/Demonstrator/Tutor in a recognized Medical College/Teaching Institution

Note: Teaching experience as a General Duty Medical Officer or Medical Officer will NOT be considered for eligibility. All Medical Teachers must also be registered under the State/Central Medical Registration Act.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 50 years for UR (Unreserved/General) candidates
• Maximum age: 53 years for OBC candidates
• Maximum age: 55 years for SC candidates
• Age reference date: 6 May 2026 (last date of online applications)
• For the post of Assistant Professor (Radiodiagnosis): This post is reserved for retired persons. The appointment shall be for an initial period not exceeding one year, extendable up to a maximum of 5 years after superannuation, or until the regular incumbent joins through UPSC, whichever is earlier.

Salary

• Contract pay: Rs. 67,700 per month
• Plus NPA (Non-Practising Allowance, where applicable)
• Plus Dearness Allowance as per Chandigarh Administration rules
• For retired persons (Radiodiagnosis post): A fixed monthly amount arrived at by deducting the basic pension from the pay drawn at retirement. No annual increment during the contract period.

Application Fee

• SC candidates (for SC reserved posts): Rs. 250 + bank charges
• All other categories: Rs. 500 + bank charges
• Payment mode: Online only (demand draft, banker's cheque, money order not accepted)
• Fee is non-refundable under any circumstances

Selection Process

Selection is based on eligibility screening followed by interview:

1. Online Application & Screening: Applications are reviewed for eligibility. A list of provisionally eligible and not-eligible candidates will be displayed on the GMCH website. No separate letter will be sent.
2. Interview: Provisionally eligible candidates will be called for interview. Interview date will be displayed on the GMCH website and communicated via registered email IDs. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
3. Document Verification: Original certificates/documents will be verified at the time of interview. Bring originals plus a No Objection Certificate from your current employer if working in a Govt/Semi-Govt/PSU organization.

2. Fill in the online application form carefully. No field should be left blank.
3. Pay the application fee online within the application portal.
4. Submit the online application before 6 May 2026 by 04:00 PM.
5. Take a printout of the submitted online application form.
6. Send the printout along with self-attested photocopies of all required documents by post or by hand to: Director Principal, Room No. 228, Diary & Dispatch Section, Level-II, Block-D, Hospital Building, GMCH, Sector-32/B, Chandigarh-160030 before 11 May 2026.

• Evaluate student performance in theory, practical, and clinical examinations
• Perform and supervise clinical/diagnostic procedures relevant to the specialty
• Participate in departmental research activities and case presentations
• Attend departmental meetings, academic committees, and hospital administrative duties as assigned
• Maintain patient care standards and follow GMCH hospital protocols in the assigned department
