The Indian Navy, one of the world's most respected naval forces with a proud maritime heritage spanning over 400 years, has opened applications for Agniveer MR (Musician) under the 02/2026 (July 2026) Batch. This is a unique opportunity for musically talented young Indians to serve their country while pursuing their passion for music. You will perform as part of the prestigious Indian Navy Band during ceremonial parades and official functions. If you are between 17.5 and 21 years old, have cleared your 10th Class, and can play at least one musical instrument, this recruitment is for you.
Who Can Apply?
- Education: You must have passed Matriculation (10th Class) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from any Board recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
- Musical Proficiency: You need proficiency and aptitude in music with accurate tempo and pitch. You must be able to sing one complete song and have practical skill on at least one musical instrument — Keyboard, String, or Wind instruments of Indian or foreign origin.
- Instruments NOT Allowed: Indefinite-pitch or monotone instruments like Jazz Drums, Basic Drums, Snare Drums, Side Drums, Cymbals, Non-Chromatic instruments, Bugles, and instruments that produce only one note or drone are not accepted.
- Music Certificate: You should hold a Degree, Diploma, Grade Certificate, or Certificate of Musical Competitions from a recognised music institute or organisation.
- Musical Knowledge: You should be able to read Indian Classical/Tabulature/Staff Notation, and know basic theory of Indian or International music. You should also be able to tune your instrument, prepare a piece, and do sight reading.
- Marital Status: Only unmarried male and female candidates can apply. You must remain unmarried throughout your 4-year engagement period.
- Gender: Both male and female candidates are eligible.
Age Limit
- You must be born between 01 July 2004 and 31 December 2008 (both dates inclusive).
- This means your age should be between 17.5 and 21 years at the time of enrolment.
- No age relaxation is applicable for any category.
Salary and Benefits
- 1st Year: Rs 30,000 per month (Rs 21,000 in hand + Rs 9,000 contributed to Agniveer Corps Fund)
- 2nd Year: Rs 33,000 per month (Rs 23,100 in hand + Rs 9,900 to Corps Fund)
- 3rd Year: Rs 36,500 per month (Rs 25,580 in hand + Rs 10,950 to Corps Fund)
- 4th Year: Rs 40,000 per month (Rs 28,000 in hand + Rs 12,000 to Corps Fund)
- Seva Nidhi Package: On completion of 4 years, you receive Rs 5.02 Lakh (your contribution) + Rs 5.02 Lakh (Government matching contribution) = Rs 10.04 Lakh (tax-free, one-time lump sum).
- Allowances: Risk and hardship allowance, dress allowance, and travel allowance will be paid in addition.
- Insurance: Rs 48 Lakh non-contributory Life Insurance Cover for the entire engagement period.
- Death Compensation: Rs 44 Lakh one-time ex-gratia in addition to insurance cover.
- Medical Facilities: Free medical treatment at Naval Service hospitals and CSD facilities.
Physical Standards
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
For Male Candidates:
- Running: 1.6 km run
- Squats (Uthak Baithak): 20
- Push-ups: 15
- Bent Knee Sit-ups: 15
For Female Candidates:
- Running: 1.6 km run (06 min 30 sec for males, 08 min for females)
- Squats (Uthak Baithak): 15
- Push-ups: 10
- Bent Knee Sit-ups: 10
Medical Standards:
- Minimum Height: 157 cm (both male and female)
- Eyesight: Uncorrected vision 6/12 in both eyes; Corrected vision 6/6 in both eyes
- Colour Perception: CP Pass (must pass Colour Perception test)
- No permanent body tattoos except on inner face of forearms (inside of elbow to wrist) and on the reversed side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand.
Application Fee
- Application Fee: There is no application fee for applying online.
- CSC Fee: If you apply through Common Service Centres (CSC), a fee of Rs 60 + GST will be charged. This facility is entirely optional.
Selection Process
The selection will happen in 5 stages. You must clear each stage to move to the next one:
- Shortlisting: Based on marks obtained in Matriculation examination and valid music certificates (Degree/Diploma/Grade/Certificate of Competitions). Shortlisting is done on All India Merit basis.
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Running, squats, push-ups, and bent knee sit-ups as per the standards mentioned above. You must qualify PFT to proceed.
- Written Examination: 50 MCQs for 50 marks in 30 minutes. Bilingual paper (Hindi and English). Covers Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness at 10th standard level. The Indian Navy reserves the right to determine pass marks in each section and in aggregate.
- Music Ability Test (MAT): This is the most important stage. You will demonstrate your musical ability, instrument proficiency, and knowledge. Final selection is based purely on your performance in the Music Ability Test.
- Recruitment Medical Examination: Conducted at designated Military Hospitals allocated by the Indian Navy. Medical fitness certificates from other hospitals are not accepted. You can appeal within a maximum period of 05 days if found medically unfit.
Important: The recruitment process is tentatively scheduled to be held in early July 2026. Centre allocation will be at the discretion of the Indian Navy.

- Play musical instruments as part of the Indian Navy Band during ceremonial parades, official functions, and state events
- Practice and rehearse musical compositions regularly to maintain performance standards
- Learn and master multiple musical instruments during professional training at INS Kunjali
- Perform in orchestras and musical ensembles for national and international events
- Maintain and care for assigned musical instruments and equipment
- Participate in basic naval training activities and physical fitness programmes
- Follow naval discipline, rules, and regulations during the 4-year engagement period
- Assist in training junior musicians and contribute to the band's musical repertoire

Exam Pattern
The written exam will have 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) for 50 marks. You will get 30 minutes to complete it.

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer. You need to score 13 marks and above out of 50 to qualify (i.e., above 25%).
