About This Job

The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), Ranchi has released the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) 2026 notification (No. 487, dated 26 March 2026). If you want to become an Assistant Teacher (Sahayak Aacharya) in government primary and upper primary schools across Jharkhand, you need to clear this exam first. The online application window runs from 21 April to 21 May 2026. The exam is OMR-based with no negative marking, and a valid JTET certificate qualifies you for teaching appointments in Classes 1-8.

JAC JTET 2026 Recruitment - Sahayak Aacharya

The Jharkhand Shikshak Patrata Pariksha (JTET) 2026 is a state-level eligibility test conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council under the new JTET Rules 2026. This test is your gateway to becoming a Sahayak Aacharya (Assistant Teacher) in Jharkhand government elementary schools. The exam has two levels - Level 1 for Primary (Class 1-5) and Level 2 for Upper Primary (Class 6-8). You can appear for one or both levels. The JTET certificate is valid for a lifetime, which is a major benefit compared to earlier rules.

Exam Levels

Who Can Apply?

Level 1 - Primary Teacher (Class 1-5)

You need any one of the following qualifications:

  • 12th pass with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed / D.Ed (enrolled on or after 09.12.2007)
  • 12th pass with 45% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed as per NCTE 2002 norms (enrolled before 09.12.2007)
  • 12th pass with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed degree
  • 12th pass with 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Special Education
  • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed / D.Ed

Level 2 - Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6-8)

You need any one of the following qualifications:

  • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed / D.Ed
  • Graduation with 50% marks + B.Ed (enrolled after 29.07.2011 or in equivalent program)
  • Graduation with 45% marks + B.Ed as per NCTE norms (enrolled before 29.07.2011)
  • 12th pass with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed / B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed
  • Post-graduation with 55% marks + 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed
  • Graduation with 50% marks + B.Ed in Special Education

Important: You must be an Indian citizen. Your teaching training must be from an NCTE-recognized institution. Candidates whose training is ongoing can also apply, but they must complete it before the exam.

Language Teacher (Class 6-8)

You need a 3-year Bachelor's degree (Pratishttha) in any language listed in Schedule I - Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, or any regional/tribal language.

Math & Science Teacher (Class 6-8)

You need at least a 3-year graduation in Science/Engineering/Agriculture/Mathematics subjects, plus 10+2 with Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (at least 2 science subjects).

Social Science Teacher (Class 6-8)

You need at least a 3-year graduation in Arts/Humanities/Commerce/Management subjects.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 years as on 1 August 2026
  • Maximum Age: As per Jharkhand government service rules (determined by the Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language, Ranchi)
  • Special relaxation: All candidates get a one-time age relaxation equal to the gap between the previous JTET and this JTET (e.g., if the last JTET was in 2016 and this one is in 2026, you get up to 9 years extra relaxation beyond 1 year)
  • SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD: Additional relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks for educational qualification as per norms
  • Para Teachers (Sahayak Adhyapak): Working para teachers get age relaxation equal to their service period, with a maximum upper age limit of 58 years

Salary

  • Pay Level: Level 4 under 7th Pay Commission
  • Basic Pay Range: Rs. 25,500 - 81,100 per month
  • Grade Pay: Rs. 2,400
  • Dearness Allowance (DA): 53% of basic pay
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): 20% of basic pay
  • Approximate Starting In-hand Salary: Rs. 36,000+ per month

Note: The salary mentioned above is for the post of Sahayak Aacharya after appointment through the state government recruitment process. JTET is only the eligibility exam - actual salary applies once you are appointed as a teacher.

Selection Process

  1. JTET Written Exam (OMR-based): This is a multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam conducted in offline mode (pen and paper). Each level has 150 questions carrying 150 marks with a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. There is no negative marking.
  2. Document Verification: After clearing the exam, qualified candidates will receive a JTET certificate. When a teacher recruitment notification comes, you will need to submit your JTET certificate along with other documents for verification.

Qualifying Marks

  • General / EWS: 60% (90 out of 150 marks)
  • OBC (List 1 and List 2): 55% (82.5 out of 150 marks)
  • SC / ST / Primitive Tribal / PwD: 52% (78 out of 150 marks)

Important: Do not send any hard copy of the application to JAC. The entire process is online. There is no correction window mentioned, so fill your form carefully.

Note for JTET 2024 applicants: Even if you applied for JTET 2024, you must apply again for JTET 2026 with fresh registration and fee payment. However, the exam fee will not be charged again for such candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned subjects to students in primary (Class 1-5) or upper primary (Class 6-8) government schools across Jharkhand
  • Prepare lesson plans and follow the state-approved curriculum and syllabus
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress through regular assessments and examinations
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, marks, and student performance
  • Assist in organizing school events, cultural programs, and extracurricular activities
  • Follow government guidelines on continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE)
  • Work closely with parents and guardians to support student development
  • Handle administrative tasks like mid-day meal supervision, census surveys, and election duties as assigned by the district education office

Exam Pattern

JTET 2026 Exam Pattern

The JTET exam is conducted in offline mode (OMR-based) with multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer gets 1 mark. There is no negative marking. The question paper is available in Hindi and English.

Level 1 - Paper 1 (Primary, Class 1-5)

  • Child Development & Teaching Methods: 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Language I (Hindi/Sanskrit/Urdu/English - choose any two, one mandatory): 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Language II (Regional/Tribal language from Schedule I): 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Mathematics: 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Environmental Studies (EVS): 30 questions, 30 marks

Total: 150 questions, 150 marks, Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

Level 2 - Paper 2 (Upper Primary, Class 6-8)

Compulsory Sections:

  • Child Development & Teaching Methods: 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Language I (Hindi/Sanskrit/Urdu/English - choose any two): 30 questions, 30 marks
  • Language II (Regional/Tribal language from Schedule I): 30 questions, 30 marks

Optional Section (choose one):

  • (a) Math & Science Teacher: Math & Science questions (50 marks) + Computer Knowledge (10 marks) = 60 marks
  • (b) Social Science Teacher: Social Studies questions (50 marks) + Computer Knowledge (10 marks) = 60 marks
  • (c) Language/Other Teacher: Choose either (a) or (b) above

Total: 150 questions, 150 marks, Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

PwD candidates (visual disability, cerebral palsy, both-hand disability) get 30 minutes extra time and a scribe facility.

Difficulty level: Level 1 questions are based on Class 1-5 syllabus but at Matriculation (10th) difficulty level. Level 2 questions are based on Class 6-8 syllabus but at Higher Secondary (+2) difficulty level.
