The Office of the Superintendent of Police, Nashik Rural (under the Special Inspector General of Police, Nashik Range) has released a notification for 6 Legal Officer posts — 1 Legal Officer Group-B and 5 Legal Officer posts — to be filled purely on a contractual basis for a period of 11 months. The posts are for the SP Office and sub-divisional Police Officer offices in Nashik Rural district. Sannad-holding advocates with 5 years of legal practice can apply. Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- You must hold a law degree (LLB) from a recognized university.
- You must be a Sannad-holder (enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council).
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of legal practice is required for both Legal Officer Group-B and Legal Officer posts.
- You should have working knowledge of criminal law, service matters, administrative law and departmental enquiry procedures.
Language Knowledge
- You must have sufficient knowledge of Marathi, Hindi and English.
Alternative Eligibility
- Persons who handled legal work while in government service and have in-depth knowledge of criminal, administrative and service-related laws can also apply (such government service is counted only for experience, not for re-employment). Persons currently in government service are not eligible.
Age Limit
- Maximum age at the time of appointment: 60 years.
- All eligibility criteria (qualification, age, experience) must be fulfilled as on 06 May 2026.
Salary
- Legal Officer Group-B: Consolidated Rs. 25,000 per month + Rs. 3,000 phone & travel = Rs. 28,000 per month.
- Legal Officer: Consolidated Rs. 20,000 per month + Rs. 3,000 phone & travel = Rs. 23,000 per month.
- No other allowances will be admissible. No travel expenses will be paid for attending the selection process.
Selection Process
Selection will be done in two stages:
- Written Exam (50 marks): Candidates equal to 3 times the number of vacancies will be called for interview based on written exam scores.
- Interview (25 marks): Topics include knowledge of criminal cases (drafting affidavits before High Court / Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal), service-related matters, MCOCA proceedings (Section 197 CrPC 1975), Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act 1999 sanctions, current judicial situations on important service/criminal matters.
Qualifying marks: Minimum 60% combined marks are required for selection.
Total marks: 75 (Written 50 + Interview 25). The dates of written exam and interview will be intimated to candidates separately.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on all matters and court cases received by the office
- Handle service-related, administrative and departmental enquiry matters with proper legal opinion
- Follow up pending court cases with the Government Pleader for early disposal
- Draft affidavits, replies and submissions for cases where the government is a party
- Study court judgments against the government and prepare appropriate appeals
- Send appeal drafts to the concerned Government Pleader and follow up till final decision
- Complete legal assignments given by the office within prescribed timelines
- Assist in registering proper First Information Reports at police stations
