Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has released notification for 81 Scientific Officer posts in three disciplines under the Home Department (Griha Vibhag). This is a Gazetted Class II position with three separate advertisements: Physics (Advt. 05/2026), Chemistry (Advt. 06/2026), and Biology (Advt. 07/2026). Chemistry has the highest number of vacancies at 36 posts, followed by Biology with 25 and Physics with 20. Who Can Apply?

For Scientific Officer (Physics):

  • Qualification: You need an M.Sc. in Physics or Forensic Science with a Second Division, along with an M.P.S.C. Upadhi (degree).
  • Specialisation: Your M.Sc. must be in Physical Science or Forensic Science (Ballistics) from a recognised university.

For Scientific Officer (Chemistry):

  • Qualification: You need an M.Sc. in Chemistry or Forensic Science with a Second Division, along with an M.P.S.C. Upadhi.
  • Specialisation: Your M.Sc. should be in Chemical Science or Forensic Science/Forensic Toxicology from a recognised university. One subject must be mandatory.

For Scientific Officer (Biology):

  • Qualification: You need an M.Sc. in a Biology-related subject with a Second Division, along with an M.P.S.C. Upadhi.
  • Accepted Subjects: Botany, Zoology (Prani), Microbiology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Life Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or any related Forensic Science specialisation.

Employment Registration: Candidates from Madhya Pradesh must have their name registered at the employment office in their district. However, registration at the time of applying is not mandatory -- you can register until the last date.

Age Limit

  • You should be at least 21 years old and not more than 40 years old as on 01 January 2027.
  • SC/ST/OBC (MP domicile): 5 years relaxation in upper age limit.
  • Ex-Servicemen (MP domicile): Relaxation as per Madhya Pradesh Government rules (Circular dated 29.06.1985 and 03.09.1985).
  • PwD (Divyang): Up to 2 additional years of relaxation depending on the category. The combined age relaxation from all categories will not exceed 45 years in any case.
  • Female candidates, widows, and divorced women: Age relaxation applicable only if they are domiciles of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Note: Date of birth as recorded in High School (10th) marksheet will be considered valid.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a pay scale of Rs. 15,600 - Rs. 39,100 with Grade Pay of Rs. 5,400.
  • Under the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, this corresponds to Level 10 with an entry pay of approximately Rs. 56,100 per month.
  • You will also receive DA, HRA, TA, and other allowances as per Madhya Pradesh Government rules.

  • Regular Application (by 20 May 2026): Exam fee as prescribed by MPPSC. Payment through Credit/Debit Card, Internet Banking, or MP Online Kiosk.
  • Late Fee Application (21 May - 27 May 2026): Online application with late fee of Rs. 3,000
  • Late Fee Application (28 May - 28 Oct 2026): Online application with late fee of Rs. 25,000
  • Error Correction Fee: Rs. 50 per correction (correction window: 26 Apr - 22 May 2026)
  • Note: Fee once paid will not be refunded. Fee must be paid through MP Online portal. Appendix-3 provides detailed fee structure.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 3 stages:

  1. Written Examination (OMR Based): Objective type questions with negative marking. The exam will be conducted at centres in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and other locations across Madhya Pradesh on 22 November 2026. Questions will be of objective (multiple choice) type.
  2. Interview (Viva Voce): Candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for an interview. The number of candidates called will be based on the merit list -- typically up to 3x the number of vacancies.
  3. Document Verification: Original documents including educational certificates, caste certificate, domicile, age proof, and employment registration will be verified.

The final selection list will be prepared based on the combined performance in the written exam and interview. Interviewers will be called based on the number of positions as per MPPSC norms.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific examination and analysis of physical, chemical, or biological evidence in forensic cases
  • Prepare detailed forensic reports for submission to courts and law enforcement agencies
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment used in forensic analysis
  • Assist investigating officers by providing expert opinions on crime scene evidence
  • Follow standard operating procedures and quality protocols in all laboratory work
  • Keep proper records of all samples received, tests conducted, and results obtained
  • Present expert testimony in court proceedings when required as a forensic witness
