The Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), Mumbai, has released Advertisement No. 2026/750 inviting applications for one Chairman post in each of 29 districts -- making this a significant opportunity if you have served as a District Judge or in a higher judicial capacity.

Selection Process
Your application will first be reviewed by a Selection Committee comprising the Hon'ble Executive Chairman of MSLSA (or Hon'ble Judges nominated by the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court), the Patron-in-Chief of MSLSA, and the Member Secretary. If shortlisted, you will be called for an Interview/Viva-Voce carrying 20 marks -- you need a minimum of 7 marks to qualify. The interview can be attended physically at the Bombay High Court premises or virtually from any DLSA office in Maharashtra. The final list of selected candidates requires approval from the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

- Medical fitness certificate -- issued by a Civil Surgeon or District Medical Officer

Fill it in capital letters, attach self-attested copies of all required documents, and send everything via Speed Post with acknowledgement due to the Member Secretary, MSLSA, 3rd Floor, M.T.N.L, Fountain Telecom Building No. 1, Near Bombay High Court, Mumbai - 400 001. Your application must reach the office on or before 04 April 2026 by 5:30 PM. Hand delivery is not accepted.
Responsibilities
- Preside over the Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services in the assigned district
- Adjudicate and settle disputes related to public utility services as per the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987
- Conduct sittings and ensure timely resolution of cases brought before the Permanent Lok Adalat
- Discharge additional functions as assigned by the Hon'ble Executive Chairman of MSLSA
- Maintain judicial discipline and ensure no personal, financial, or other interest conflicts with the office
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Retired District Judge, Additional District Judge, or held Judicial Office higher in rank than District Judge
Required Skills
Sufficient knowledge of Marathi to speak, read, write, and translate from Marathi to English and vice-versa
Age Limit
55 - 65 years (as on 26 Feb 2026)

Allowances
Conveyance allowance as per Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice Notification No. G.S.R. 312(E) dated 15 May 2025. Sitting fee of Rs. 2,500 per sitting of the Permanent Lok Adalat.

- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India
- Tenure: 5 years or till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier
- Conflict of Interest: Must furnish undertaking of no personal, financial, or other interest conflicting with office of Permanent Lok Adalat
- Post-Tenure Restriction: For 5 years after ceasing to hold office, former Chairman shall not be associated with management or administration of any organisation that was a party to proceedings before the Permanent Lok Adalat during their tenure
