About This Job

The National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), an autonomous organization under the Department of Space, Government of India, is hiring 8 Junior Research Fellows (JRF). You will get a monthly fellowship of Rs. 37,000 to Rs. 42,000 and work at NARL's state-of-the-art facility in Gadanki, Andhra Pradesh. The last date to apply is 27 April 2026. You need a Post Graduate degree in relevant science/engineering fields and must have cleared CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, JAM, or JEST.

NARL Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 8 Posts

NARL is a premier research lab equipped with high-power RADARs and LIDARs, observational networks, and a high-performance computing system. This JRF position (Advertisement No. NARL/RMT/JRF/02/2026) is meant for carrying out cutting-edge research in atmospheric and space sciences, leading to a Ph.D. degree. This is an excellent opportunity for young researchers interested in weather, climate, and atmospheric science.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

You need one of the following:

• M.Sc. degree with minimum 65% aggregate (or equivalent CGPA/CPI) in: Physics, Atmospheric Science, Space Physics, Meteorology, Earth System Sciences, Geophysics, Remote Sensing, or Applied Chemistry with Physics as major subject
• M.E./M.Tech degree with minimum 60% aggregate (or equivalent CGPA/CPI) in: Electronics Engineering, Communication Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or Instrumentation Engineering

Mandatory Qualification Test

You must have qualified in any one of these exams:

• CSIR-UGC NET
• GATE
• JAM
• JEST

Note: Final year students can also apply. However, you must produce your final year marks sheet or P.G. degree certificate at the time of interview.

Only Indian nationals can apply for this position.

Age Limit

• Preferably 28 years as on the last date of application (27 April 2026)
• Age relaxation for SC/ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen, and PwBD candidates as per Government of India rules

Fellowship and Allowances

• 1st and 2nd year: Rs. 37,000/- per month
• Subsequent years: Rs. 42,000/- per month
• HRA: Provided if you do not avail hostel facility
• Other benefits: Medical facilities, subsidized canteen, and hostel accommodation
• Fellowship and allowances are as per rules in vogue from time to time

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting - Based on your qualifications and application
2. Interview - Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at NARL, Gadanki
3. Document Verification - You must produce all original documents at the time of interview

Travel allowance: Candidates attending the interview will get Sleeper Class train fare reimbursement by the shortest route.
