NII Project Research Scientist-I Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The BRIC-National Institute of Immunology (NII), located on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg in New Delhi, is an autonomous research institute funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). This position is for an ICMR-funded research project on Chikungunya virus vaccine development, under the supervision of Dr. Soumen Basak (Staff Scientist-VII). The contract runs for up to one year at a time, with the project tenable till January 2028. Who Can Apply?
Option 1 — First-Class M.Sc with NET:
- You need a First-Class M.Sc degree in any field of Science
- You must have cleared a national-level eligibility test such as CSIR-NET, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, or an equivalent exam
Option 2 — Second-Class M.Sc with NET + Experience/PhD:
- You need a Second-Class M.Sc degree along with a qualified NET (CSIR, DBT, ICMR, or equivalent)
- Additionally, you must have at least 3 years of research experience in a reputed institute, OR a PhD degree
Publication Requirement (Mandatory for All):
- You must have at least 2 publications in an internationally reputed journal
Required Skills:
- Basic expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques is mandatory
Desirable Knowledge:
- Experience in cell signalling and viral immunology will give you an advantage
Salary
- You will receive a consolidated salary of Rs. 56,000 per month
- Additionally, you will get 30% House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per ICMR funding agency norms
- Your total monthly take-home will be approximately Rs. 72,800 (salary + HRA)

- SC / ST / PH / Women: No fee (exempted, subject to documentary proof at the time of interview)

Selection Process
The selection will be done in 2 stages:
- Shortlisting: The Project Investigator will shortlist candidates based on their qualifications, research experience, and publications. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the next round.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will attend an interview, which may be conducted in offline or online mode. You will need to bring attested copies of all your certificates and pay the application fee at this stage.

Responsibilities
- Conduct experiments related to Chikungunya virus vaccine development under the ICMR-funded project
- Perform biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques as part of daily research work
- Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and executing research protocols
- Maintain detailed laboratory records and prepare research reports
- Analyse experimental data and contribute to writing research papers for publication
- Handle cell culture work and maintain laboratory reagents and equipment
- Present research findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences when required

Minimum Qualification
M.Sc with NET (CSIR/DBT/ICMR) or PhD, with 2+ publications
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge in cell signalling and viral immunology
Required Skills

Experience
Freshers can apply
3 years research experience required for candidates with Second-Class M.Sc (alternative to PhD). Experience in cell signalling and viral immunology is desirable.
