National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. NITR/ES/02/2026 for 86 faculty positions. These positions span across 20+ departments covering Engineering, Architecture, Science, Humanities, and Management. Who Can Apply?

For Engineering Departments:

• You need a First Class in B.Tech/B.E. with a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

For Industrial Design:

• You need a First Class in B.Tech/B.E./B.Des. with a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

For Planning and Architecture:

• Assistant Professor Grade II: First Class in B.Arch. and M.Arch./M.Plan. or equivalent
• Assistant Professor Grade I and above: First Class in B.Arch. and M.Arch./M.Plan. or equivalent with Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

For Science Departments:

• You need a First Class in Master's Degree with a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

For Humanities and Social Sciences:

• You need a First Class in Master's Degree with a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

For School of Management:

• You need a First Class in MBA/M.Tech/M.Sc./LLM or equivalent with a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or discipline

All degrees must be from a UGC/AICTE/AIU recognized Institute or University. Qualifications are as per Schedule 'E' of NIT Statute published on 24 July 2017.

Age Limit

• Fresh appointment beyond the age of 60 years is discouraged except for candidates with exceptional research, industrial, or academic careers
• All qualifications, experience, and age are counted as on the closing date of application (22 April 2026)
• Age relaxation: As per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen categories

Salary

• Assistant Professor Grade II (Level 10): Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month
• Assistant Professor Grade I (Level 12): Rs. 1,01,500 to Rs. 1,67,400 per month
• Associate Professor (Level 13A2): Rs. 1,39,600 to Rs. 2,11,300 per month
• Professor (Level 14A): Rs. 1,59,100 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month
• Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government norms
• Additional incentives include Professional Development Allowance (PDA) of up to Rs. 3 Lakh in 3 years for conferences, memberships, and books
• Medical facility including referral to outside specialized hospitals
• Residential accommodation on campus (subject to availability) or HRA
• Seed money through Institutionally Funded Research Projects (IFRP) for newly joined faculty

• SC / ST / PwD: Rs. 750
• Indian nationals applying from abroad: Rs. 3,000
• Payment mode: Online only (no other mode of payment is acceptable)

Selection Process

Selection will be carried out in the following stages:

1. Application Scrutiny: All applications received by the closing date will be scrutinized for eligibility. The scrutiny committee may set a higher standard for shortlisting
2. Shortlisting: Departments may fix different short-listing criteria for each post or specialization. Meeting minimum qualification alone does not guarantee a call for presentation
3. Presentation: Shortlisted candidates will give a presentation. The merit list is based on Academic Achievements (A) and Presentation Score (B)
4. Personal Interview: Only candidates recommended after presentation evaluation will appear for the interview
5. Document Verification: Original documents for reservation category, educational qualification, experience, and other claims must be produced

Candidates applying from abroad may attend the presentation and interview via video conferencing on request. Candidates residing in India must attend in person.
