Selection Process
You will go through a Written Test followed by a Skill Test. The written exam carries 100 objective-type questions worth 100 marks, but your score gets scaled down to 70 marks. The skill test evaluates your practical translation ability and carries 30 marks. Your final merit is based on the combined score out of 100. The minimum qualifying marks for reserved category candidates is 40% in both tests.
Preparation Tips for NLCIL Hindi Translator Exam
- Focus on Hindi literature and grammar — the relevant subjects section carries 80 out of 100 marks in the written test
- Brush up on General Knowledge, logical reasoning, and numerical ability — these carry 20 marks and are easy scoring areas
- Practice Hindi-to-English and English-to-Hindi translation daily — the skill test will directly assess your translation quality
- Time management matters — you get 120 minutes for 100 questions, which is roughly 72 seconds per question
- No negative marking — attempt every single question since there is no penalty for wrong answers
- Review previous NLCIL recruitment papers if available to understand the difficulty level and question patterns
Responsibilities
- Translate official documents, correspondence, and reports from Hindi to English and English to Hindi
- Assist in implementing the Official Language Policy of the Government of India across NLCIL units
- Prepare Hindi versions of administrative orders, circulars, notices, and manuals
- Support Hindi workshops, training sessions, and official language promotion activities
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in all translated materials
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
MA in Hindi from a recognised university with Bachelor's Degree having English as a subject, plus PG Diploma in Translation (Hindi to English and vice-versa) from a recognised university/institution
Required Skills
Proficiency in Hindi-English translation, strong command over Hindi grammar and literature
Age Limit
18 - 33 years (as on 01 Feb 2026)
Age Relaxation:
- OBC (NCL): Up to 33 years (included in max age)
- ST: Up to 35 years
- PwBD: 10 years additional relaxation over category limit
- Ex-Servicemen: As per Government of India guidelines
- Maximum for all: 58 years absolute upper limit

Pay Scale
Rs. 20,000-3%-81,000 (W-3 Grade)
Allowances
Unified Incentive Scheme (annually), medical treatment for self and dependents, group insurance, company residential accommodation (unfurnished) at standard rent subject to availability. Approximate CTC: Rs. 5.58 Lakhs per annum.

Exam Pattern
The written exam consists of 100 objective-type (MCQ) questions with 1 mark each, totalling 100 marks. The question paper will be in English only. Duration is 120 minutes (2 hours). There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
