National Law University Meghalaya (NLU Meghalaya), located at Mayurbhanj Complex, Nongthymmai, Shillong, has invited applications for the position of Vice-Chancellor under Advertisement No. NLUM/HRD/R&H/VC-REC/816/2026/235 dated 03 March 2026. Established in 2022, NLU Meghalaya is one of the newer National Law Universities in India. This is a prestigious leadership role with an initial tenure of up to 3 years (with eligibility for re-appointment). Who Can Apply?

Route A - Academic Scholar

• Qualification: You should be an outstanding scholar in law with published work of high quality
• Competence: You should possess the highest level of competence, integrity, morals and institutional commitment
• Experience: You need at least 10 years as Professor in a university, or 10 years of experience in a reputed research or academic administrative organisation with proof of demonstrated academic leadership
• Administration: You should have proven experience in academic administration and demonstrated capability of providing effective leadership to the Law University Community

Route B - Judicial Background

• A person who has been a Judge of the High Court is also eligible to apply

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 65 years (preferably, as on the closing date of receipt of applications i.e. 03 April 2026)
• No minimum age is specified

Salary

• The salary will be Rs. 2,10,000 per month (fixed) as per UGC norms and the prevailing University Statute/Act/regulations
• Additionally, you will receive a Special Allowance of Rs. 5,000 per month
• Other allowances like DA, HRA, and service conditions will be as per prevailing norms

Tenure Details

• The initial appointment is for a period of not more than 3 years
• The Vice-Chancellor is eligible for re-appointment
• On expiry of the term, the incumbent continues in office until a successor is appointed or an alternative arrangement is made by the Chancellor, whichever is earlier

Selection Process

The appointment of Vice-Chancellor follows a multi-stage institutional process:

1. Selection Committee Panel: A Selection Committee will evaluate all applications and prepare a panel of suitable candidates as specified under Section 22(1) of the NLU Meghalaya Act
2. Executive Council Proposal: The panel is then proposed by the Executive Council of the University
3. General Council Recommendation: The General Council reviews the panel and recommends a candidate
4. Chancellor Appointment: The Chancellor makes the final appointment based on the General Council's recommendation
