Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) located at Malpe in Karnataka, is hiring ex-Indian Navy personnel for commissioning roles. The company operates under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India. For Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical):

  • Qualification: Diploma in Mechanical or Marine Engineering from a recognised university
  • Experience: At least 10 years post-qualification experience in operation and maintenance of marine equipment and systems
  • Desirable: Experience in commissioning, operation and watch keeping of ship equipment on board Indian Navy ships. MCERA/MCMECH/CHERA/CHMECH/ERA3/MECH3/HA3 ranks preferred

For Commissioning Engineer (Electrical/Electronics):

  • Qualification: Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from a recognised university
  • Experience: At least 10 years post-qualification experience in operation and maintenance of marine electrical/electronic equipment and systems
  • Desirable: Experience in computer-based instrumentation and weapon control on board Indian Navy ships. MCEAP/CHEAP/EAP3/CHMECH(P)/CHMECH(R) ranks preferred

For Commissioning Assistant (Electrician/Shipwright/Mechanician):

  • Qualification: Class 10 (X Std.) pass
  • Experience: At least 10 years post-qualification experience in operation and maintenance of marine equipment, operations, hull, and electrical systems
  • Desirable: Experience in independent watch keeping on Indian Naval ships or Coast Guard vessels. CHME/POME/ELR1/ELR2/CHELR/SHW1/SHW2/CHSHW ranks preferred

Applicants must hold a Discharge Certificate/Book/Pension Payment Order from the Indian Navy. Those currently working as Commissioning Engineers or Assistants on UCSL rolls are not eligible.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 45 years as on 02 April 2026
  • Government of India directives on reservation for age relaxation will apply

Salary

  • Commissioning Engineers: Rs. 50,000 per month (1st year), Rs. 51,500 (2nd year), Rs. 53,045 (3rd year)
  • Commissioning Assistants: Rs. 48,000 per month (1st year), Rs. 49,440 (2nd year), Rs. 50,924 (3rd year)
  • This is consolidated pay on contract basis

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is through a single-day walk-in process:

  1. Certificate Verification: Your original documents will be checked first. Only candidates who clear this stage will proceed
  2. Walk-in Selection: Candidates who pass the verification will attend the selection process on the same day
  3. Medical Examination: Short-listed candidates will need to undergo a medical exam at a hospital prescribed by UCSL

A rank list will be maintained with a validity of up to 18 months.

Responsibilities

  • Handle commissioning of marine equipment, systems, and machinery on board ships under construction
  • Carry out operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems fitted on naval vessels
  • Perform independent watch keeping duties on board ships and at the shipyard
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of marine equipment, switchboards, power panels, and control systems
  • Maintain detailed records of commissioning activities, equipment logs, and maintenance schedules
  • Follow all safety protocols and NBCD (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defence) procedures at the shipyard
  • Work across different UCSL units and project sites as required by the organisation

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Class 10 (X Std.) for Assistants; Diploma in Engineering for Engineers

Preferred Qualification

Experience on board Indian Navy capital ships. Proficiency in computer-based data management and record keeping

Required Skills

Marine equipment operation, ship commissioning, watch keeping, troubleshooting marine systems
