Selection Process

If the number of applicants is manageable, WBPSC will call candidates directly for an interview. However, if applications are large, a Screening Test (MCQ type) will be held first to shortlist candidates. The Screening Test marks are used only for shortlisting and will not count toward the final merit list. Your final ranking depends entirely on your interview performance, where you need to score at least 40% (Unreserved), 38% (OBC), 35% (SC), or 30% (ST) to qualify.

Exam Pattern

If the number of applicants is large, WBPSC may conduct a Screening Test (MCQ type) to shortlist candidates for the interview. Key points about the screening test:

  • The test will be objective type (MCQ) with OMR-based answer sheets
  • Screening Test marks are used only for shortlisting — they do not count toward the final merit list
  • Model answers will be displayed on the WBPSC website after the test, and candidates can file objections within the specified time limit
  • All candidates scoring at or above the cut-off marks will be called for interview — no tie-breaking is applied at the screening stage

Interview qualifying marks: Unreserved — 40%, OBC — 38%, SC — 35%, ST — 30%. Candidates who do not meet these thresholds will not be considered, regardless of their academic record or screening test score.
