Note: The casual staff positions (News Editor, News Reader, Broadcast Executive, Website Assistant) are for empanelment — selected candidates will be placed on a panel and given assignments as per RNU requirements, normally not exceeding 6 days per month.
Who Can Apply?
For Casual News Editor:
- Qualification: Graduate from a recognised university
- Degree or PG Diploma in Journalism (minimum 1 year) from a recognised institution, OR 5 years of experience in reporting/editing in print or electronic media
- Proficiency in English language
- Desirable: Experience in Radio/TV journalism; Knowledge of basic computer applications
For Casual News Reader (English):
- Qualification: Graduate from a recognised university
- Proficiency in English language
- Good voice quality suited to broadcasting

For Casual Broadcast Executive:
- Qualification: Graduate with Professional Diploma in Radio Production and 3 years experience
- Proficiency in English language
- Knowledge of basic computer applications
- Practical knowledge in audio editing and English typing with various fonts
For Website Assistant:
- Qualification: Graduate degree from a recognised university
- Degree or Diploma in Journalism/Mass Communication
- Desirable: 2 years experience in relevant field; Exposure to new media operations
For Part-Time Correspondent (PTC):
- Qualification: Graduate with minimum 2 years journalistic experience
- Working knowledge of computer and word processing
- Possession of news-gathering devices
- Must be a resident of the concerned District HQ or within 10 km radius
- Desirable: PG Diploma/Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication; Experience in electronic media news coverage
- Not eligible: Persons in Central/State Government service, UT Administration, PSUs, or members of any political party
Age Limit
- For Casual News Editor, News Reader, Broadcast Executive, and Website Assistant: 21 to 50 years
- For Part-Time Correspondent: 24 to 50 years (as on the last date of advertisement)
Salary
- Casual News Editor and Casual News Reader: Rs. 1,875 per full shift (freshers) and Rs. 2,400 per full shift (3+ years experience). Half-shift rates apply as per norms
- Casual Broadcast Executive and Website Assistant: Rs. 1,500 per full shift
- Part-Time Correspondent: Average Rs. 9,250 per month (inclusive of conveyance and telephone charges)
- All rates are as per the approved NSD, All India Radio rate card effective from 1 November 2022, subject to revision

- Written Test (100 marks): Assesses journalistic capability, professional skills, and knowledge of English. Qualifying marks: 50
- Interview (100 marks): Assesses personality and suitability for radio news. Qualifying marks: 50
For Casual News Reader (English):
- Written Test (100 marks): Short notes on current affairs and general knowledge. All questions in English only. Qualifying marks: 50
- Voice Test and Interview (100 marks): Tests voice quality, modulation, diction, pronunciation, and accent. Qualifying marks: 50
For Casual Broadcast Executive:
- Written Test for GK and Current Events (50 marks): Qualifying marks: 50%
- Practical Proficiency Test (100 marks): Computer operations for various audio formats and audio editing
For Website Assistant:
- Written Test for GK and Current Events (50 marks): Qualifying marks: 50%
- Practical Test cum Interview (100 marks): Tests understanding of social media
For Part-Time Correspondent:

Responsibilities
- Prepare news bulletins and current affairs programmes for radio broadcast
- Coordinate with correspondents and field reporters for bulletin preparation
- Read news bulletins on air with clear diction and proper pronunciation
- Handle audio editing, mixing, and technical production for news broadcasts
- Post news updates and current affairs content on Akashvani social media platforms
- Gather news from assigned district and file reports to the Regional News Unit
- Follow the AIR broadcast code and maintain journalistic standards at all times

You will face 2 stages, each carrying 100 marks:
- Written Test (100 marks): Tests your journalistic capability, professional skills, and English language knowledge. You need 50 marks to qualify

Casual News Reader (English)
You will face 2 stages, each carrying 100 marks:
