BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (formerly NABI & CIAB) is an autonomous research body under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. It works on agri-food biotechnology and biomanufacturing. This advertisement (NABI/ADMIN/1/(001)/2026-01/Rectt.) is for direct recruitment of one Scientist-D position in the EWS category at its Mohali campus. The selected candidate will work in one of five priority research areas, including metabolomics, computational biology, nutrigenomics, and agri-food biomanufacturing.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification (either A or B):

• Option A: PhD in any branch of Life Sciences / Agricultural Biotechnology / Food and Nutrition Sciences / Food Technology or equivalent + 5 years of experience
• Option B: ME / M.Tech in Agri-Biotechnology / Biotechnology / Chemical Technology / Food Technology / Food Sciences and Nutrition or equivalent + 7 years of experience

Research Areas (Specialisation):

• Metabolomics and its applications
• Computational Biology including big data analysis, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence
• Functional foods, nutraceuticals, nutrigenomics and nutritional biology
• Molecular food, flavours, food chemistry related to safety, quality and stability
• Agri-Food Bio-manufacturing

Other Requirements:

• You must be an Indian Citizen or hold OCI status
• The post is reserved for the EWS category only — you need a valid EWS certificate (Annexure-A)
• You need a strong publication / patent / product record in the relevant research area
• You must submit a 1,000-word research statement with the application
• Three letters of reference (including one from your current mentor) should be emailed directly to scientistrectt@nabi.res.in

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 50 years (with EWS-eligible age relaxation as per GOI norms)
• Age will be counted as on 30 days from the date of publication of advertisement in Employment News
• The upper age limit does not apply to existing BRIC-NABI staff or any employee of the Department of Biotechnology

Salary

• Pay Matrix Level-12: Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month (entry pay Rs. 78,800)
• You will also get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, LTC, medical benefits as per central government rules
• BRIC-NABI staff are eligible for institute accommodation (HRA will not be paid if quarters are provided)
• You will be covered under the National Pension System (NPS)

Selection Process

Selection happens in 2 stages — there is no written exam:

1. Merit-Based Shortlisting: The Screening Committee shortlists candidates on academic credentials, research publications, patents, products and technologies transferred in the relevant research area.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview. The Selection Committee may also fix qualifying marks. Outstation candidates get to-and-fro second-class railway fare on submission of proof.

A reserve panel may be prepared in order of merit. Mere possession of essential qualifications does not guarantee an interview call.

• Develop and transfer technologies relevant to the agri-food and biomanufacturing sector
• Mentor PhD scholars, project staff and junior scientists in the laboratory
• Write and manage extramural research grants from government and industry funding agencies
• Collaborate with national and international institutes on multi-disciplinary projects
• Contribute to academic and administrative committees of BRIC-NABI
