The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has released Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.44/2026 dated 01 April 2026 for the post of Legal Consultant. The IC&SR office handles all sponsored and consultancy projects at IIT Madras and needs a legal professional to support its Legal Cell. Who Can Apply?

• Educational Qualification: LLB degree — preferably from the 2023 or 2024 pass-out batch
• Preferred Qualification: LLM degree will be an added advantage
• AIBE: You must have cleared the All India Bar Examination (AIBE)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in litigation or in a legal department of a corporate organization
• Language: Good proficiency in English
• Skills: Strong negotiation skills
• Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen (persons migrated from Pakistan/Nepal with proper certification are also eligible)

Note: The crucial date for determining eligibility is 15 April 2026 (the closing date for applications). Only experience gained after your qualifying LLB degree will be counted.

Salary

• Monthly Pay: Rs. 35,000/- per month (consolidated)
• Contract Duration: Initially for 1 year, extendable based on your performance

This is a consolidated pay — no separate allowances like DA or HRA are provided on top of this amount.

Selection Process

IIT Madras reserves the right to decide the mode of screening. Based on the general instructions in the notification, the selection may include:

2. Written Test / Skill Test — May be conducted to assess your legal knowledge and drafting skills
3. Interview — Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview
