The Indian Army, HQ 2 Signal Training Centre under the Ministry of Defence has released Employment Notice for 190 vacancies of Civilian Switch Board Operators (CSBO) Grade-II, Group 'C' through direct recruitment. The appointment will be on probation for two years followed by permanent absorption based on satisfactory performance. All India Service Liability including Field Service is applicable for these posts. Citizens of India who can handle telephone exchange operations are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised Board
  • Proficiency in handling Private Board Exchange (PBX) Board — Minimum duration of experience 6 months (mandatory — no application accepted without PBX experience certificate)

Desirable

  • Fluency in spoken English and Hindi

Other Requirements

  • Must be a Citizen of India
  • Posts are subject to All India Service Liability including Field Service
  • Candidates marrying or contracting a marriage with a person already having a living spouse will be disqualified

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 25 years old as on the last date of receipt of application (31 May 2026).
  • Age Relaxation:
  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • PwBD: 10 years (additional 5 years for PwBD candidates belonging to SC/ST and 3 years for OBC)
  • Ex-Servicemen (Army/Navy/Air Force): additional 3 years relaxation
  • Departmental candidates with 3 years continuous service: up to 40 years (45 years for SC/ST)

Salary

  • Pay Band: Rs. 21,700/- + allowances as per Pay Matrix Level-3, Cell-1 of 7th Central Pay Commission
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules
  • New entrants to Government service entering on or after 01 Jan 2004 are governed by the National Pension System

Selection Process

Selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit in the Written Test, subject to qualifying in the Practical Test and Interview:

  1. Screening of Applications: To reduce the number of candidates, screening on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in the essential qualification (Matriculation/Xth Board) will be carried out.
  2. Written Test (100 marks): 4 parts — General Intelligence & Numerical Aptitude (25), General Awareness (25), General English (25), Logic & Reasoning (25). Objective Multiple Choice Type. Question paper bilingual (English and Hindi); English subject in English only.
  3. Practical Test: To check proficiency in handling exchange operation. Qualifying in nature.
  4. Interview: Qualifying in nature.
  5. Medical Test: Only shortlisted candidates will undergo medical test as per extant Government Orders.

Selection is based strictly on merit of Written Test and subject to qualifying in Practical Test and Interview.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Private Board Exchange (PBX) operations and route incoming/outgoing calls at HQ 2 Signal Training Centre
  • Manage telephone exchange equipment and ensure uninterrupted communication
  • Maintain call records, registers and exchange logs as per Army protocols
  • Coordinate with operational units for priority calls and emergency communication
  • Follow security protocols for classified and confidential telephonic communication
  • Perform shift duties including night shifts as required
  • Report any technical faults in exchange equipment to the supervisor
