Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, one of India's premier medical institutions declared as an Institution of National Importance, is hiring for its Department of Psychiatry. These positions are part of the TeleMANAS project, the Government of India's flagship National Telemental Health Program funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Both posts are on a contract basis for 11 months. Both positions are under the TeleMANAS-National Telemental Health Program on a purely contract basis for 11 months.

Who Can Apply?

For Assistant Professor:

  • Essential Qualification: Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry (MD or recognized equivalent)
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in Psychiatry at a recognized institution, gained after obtaining the MD degree

For Senior Resident:

  • Essential Qualification: Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry (MD or recognized equivalent)
  • Experience: No experience required for this post

Desirable Qualifications (for both posts):

  • Clinical and/or research experience in Telemedicine and/or Tele-training
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary research teams
  • Indexed scientific publications

Age Limit

  • Assistant Professor: Maximum 50 years (as on the last date of receipt of applications, i.e., 13 April 2026)
  • Senior Resident: Maximum 45 years (as on the last date of receipt of applications, i.e., 13 April 2026)

Salary

  • Assistant Professor: Rs 1,50,000 per month (consolidated)
  • Senior Resident: Rs 1,00,000 per month (consolidated)
  • No other allowances are payable beyond the consolidated remuneration.

Selection Process

Responsibilities

  • Assistant Professor Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the overall functioning of the TeleMANAS Mentoring Institute as the In-charge.
  • Provide specialist audio and video consultations to patients and users of the Tele MANAS platform.
  • Supervise the MHPS team including Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Social Work, Nursing staff, and lay counselors.
  • Develop curated modules and manuals for telemental health service delivery across states.
  • Handle first-level escalation of issues, conflict resolution, and prepare annual reports for the program.
  • Coordinate training and evaluation programs and network with existing mental health services across states.
  • Senior Resident Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Senior Consultant as Deputy and support all their functions in the TeleMANAS program.
  • Provide specialist audio and video consultations as a tier-2 specialist for designated states and UTs.
  • Carry out clinical, research, and academic responsibilities under the consultant psychiatrist.
  • Assist Persons with Mental Illness (PWMI) and other users of the Tele MANAS helpline.
  • Conduct and participate in scientific research in the field of tele mental health.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

MD in Psychiatry or recognized equivalent postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry

Preferred Qualification

Clinical/research experience in Telemedicine or Tele-training, experience with multidisciplinary research teams, indexed scientific publications

Required Skills

Telemedicine consultation, Psychiatric assessment, Research methodology, Telemental health program management

Assistant Professor requires 3 years experience in Psychiatry after obtaining MD. Senior Resident has no experience requirement.
