About This Exam

Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has released the notification for UPTET 2026 (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test). This is a mandatory eligibility exam for anyone who wants to teach at the primary level (Class 1 to 5) or upper primary level (Class 6 to 8) in government and aided schools across Uttar Pradesh. You can apply online starting 27 March 2026. The last date to submit your application is 26 April 2026. The exam will be held on 2, 3 and 4 July 2026.

UPESSC UPTET 2026 — Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (Advertisement No. 01/UPTET/2026)

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, conducts the UPTET every year to certify candidates for teaching positions in UP schools. UPTET 2026 covers two papers: Paper-I for primary teachers (Class 1-5) and Paper-II for upper primary teachers (Class 6-8). You can appear for both papers if you want eligibility for both levels. The UPTET certificate is now valid for a lifetime, which means once you qualify, you never have to retake this exam. Candidates who hold D.El.Ed, B.Ed, or equivalent teaching qualifications from NCTE-recognized institutions should apply before the deadline.

Papers Available

  • Paper-I (Primary Level): For candidates who want to teach Class 1 to 5
  • Paper-II (Upper Primary Level): For candidates who want to teach Class 6 to 8

You can register for one paper or both papers in a single application.

Who Can Apply?

For Paper-I (Primary Level — Class 1 to 5):

You need to have any one of these qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized university plus a two-year D.El.Ed (BTC) from an NCTE-recognized institution, in the final year or completed
  • Graduation plus two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) from an RCI-affiliated institution
  • Graduation plus B.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution (applicable for Class 1-5 appointments as per certain conditions)
  • 12th pass with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.El.Ed or B.S.C.Ed / B.S.C.Ed (B.Ed) degree
  • 12th pass with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed (integrated course) degree
  • Graduation from a recognized university plus D.Ed (Special Education) or equivalent
  • Graduation and B.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution with Urdu teaching specialization (for Urdu teachers in certain conditions)
  • Graduation from Aligarh Muslim University with a Diploma in Teaching for Urdu medium teachers (under certain pre-1997 conditions)

Intermediate with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution is also eligible.

For Paper-II (Upper Primary Level — Class 6 to 8):

You need to have any one of these qualifications:

  • Graduation or Post-graduation with at least 50% marks plus B.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution
  • Graduation or Post-graduation with at least 50% marks plus one-year B.Ed (Special Education) from an RCI-affiliated institution
  • Graduation or Post-graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed as per NCTE relaxation norms
  • Graduation or Post-graduation with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed (integrated course)
  • Graduation or Post-graduation with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed from an N.C.T.E./U.G.C. recognized institution
  • 12th pass with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.El.Ed degree
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.Ed (Vocational/Practical Education) degree

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: No upper age limit (there is no restriction on the number of attempts)
  • Note: Age relaxation as per UP Government rules applies for reserved categories.

Application Fee

The fee is charged separately for each paper. If you register for both Paper-I and Paper-II, you pay twice:

  • Paper-I Fee:
  • General / OBC / Other Backward Classes: Rs. 1,000
  • SC / ST: Rs. 500
  • PwD (Divyang): Rs. 300
  • Paper-II Fee:
  • General / OBC / Other Backward Classes: Rs. 1,000
  • SC / ST: Rs. 500
  • PwD (Divyang): Rs. 300

Payment mode: Online only (through SBI/ICICI Bank).

Selection Process

UPTET is an eligibility exam, not a direct recruitment. The selection is based on:

  1. Written Examination: 150 MCQs for 150 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes. All questions are compulsory. There is no negative marking.
  2. Result Declaration: Based on your performance, you will receive a UPTET qualifying certificate.

Qualifying Marks:

  • General category: 90 out of 150 (60%)
  • SC / ST / OBC / PwD and other reserved categories: 82 out of 150 (approximately 55%)

Once you qualify UPTET, the certificate is valid for a lifetime as per UP Government rules.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the UPTET application portal at uptet.upessc.org.
  2. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) first — this is mandatory before filling the application form.
  3. Log in and fill the online application form for Paper-I, Paper-II, or both.
  4. Upload your passport-size photograph (30 KB to 300 KB), signature (10 KB to 200 KB), documents and declaration (50 KB to 500 KB), and photo ID proof in PDF format.
  5. Pay the application fee through online banking (SBI or ICICI Bank).
  6. Submit the form and take a printout of the confirmation page for your records.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students at the primary (Class 1-5) or upper primary (Class 6-8) level in assigned subjects
  • Prepare lesson plans and teaching materials based on the approved curriculum
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluate student performance through tests and assignments
  • Maintain student attendance records and academic progress reports
  • Participate in school activities, parent-teacher meetings, and educational programmes
  • Follow guidelines set by the Basic Education Department and school administration
  • Guide students in their overall development including academics, sports, and moral values

Exam Pattern

UPTET 2026 has two papers. You can appear for one or both papers. Each paper has 150 multiple choice questions (MCQs) for 150 marks. You will get 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) to complete each paper. There is no negative marking.

Paper-I: Primary Level (Class 1 to 5)

  • Child Development and Teaching Methods (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Language I — Hindi (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Language II — English / Urdu / Sanskrit (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Mathematics (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Environmental Studies (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks

Total: 150 questions — 150 marks

Paper-II: Upper Primary Level (Class 6 to 8)

  • Child Development and Teaching Methods (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Language I — Hindi (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Language II — English / Urdu / Sanskrit (Compulsory): 30 questions — 30 marks
  • Mathematics and Science OR Social Studies: 60 questions — 60 marks (choose based on your teaching subject)

Total: 150 questions — 150 marks

Qualifying Marks: General category needs at least 90 out of 150 (60%). SC/ST/OBC/PwD and other reserved categories need at least 82 out of 150 (approximately 55%).

Exam Language: Hindi and English

Exam Type: Objective (MCQ) — OMR based

Exam Timing: Paper-I (Shift 1): 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM | Paper-II (Shift 2): 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM

The last date to submit your UPTET 2026 online application is 26 April 2026. The bank reconciliation and amendment deadline is 01 May 2026. Make sure to complete your OTR registration and pay the fee before the deadline.

For Paper-I (Class 1-5), you need Graduation with D.El.Ed (BTC) or B.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution.
