WBCSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026

The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) has opened applications for the post of Assistant Professor in various subjects across all Government-Aided General Degree Colleges in West Bengal. The recruitment covers a wide range of disciplines including Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Education, Languages, Law, Library Science, Physical Education, Journalism and Mass Communication, Music, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts. The exact number of vacancies will be announced before the merit panel is published — the Commission collects vacancy requisitions from individual colleges across the state. Who Can Apply?

For Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Education, Languages, Law, Library Science, Physical Education, and Journalism & Mass Communication:

• Qualification: Master's Degree with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the relevant subject from a recognised university
• NET/SET: You must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or SLET/SET conducted by State Governments
• Ph.D. Exemption: If you have a Ph.D. as per UGC Regulations 2009 or 2016, you may be exempt from NET/SLET/SET

For Music, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Traditional Indian Art Forms:

• Qualification: Master's Degree with at least 55% marks in a relevant subject, OR a recognised traditional/professional artist with distinguished achievement
• NET/SET: Must have cleared NET/SLET/SET (with exemptions for Ph.D. holders as above)

Marks Relaxation (Proviso I):

• SC/ST/PwD/OBC (NCL): 5% relaxation in marks at Bachelor's and Master's level (minimum 50% instead of 55%)
• Ph.D. holders (pre-Sept 1991): 5% relaxation at Master's level

All qualifications must be from a university or institute recognised by UGC or equivalent statutory body. Foreign degrees must be validated by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 40 years as on 1 January 2026
• For Approved State Aided College Teachers (SACT): Maximum 47 years as on 1 January 2026
• SC/ST: 5 years relaxation
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation
• PwD: 10 years relaxation (except for Physical Education post)
• Exceptionally qualified over-aged Ph.D. holders with significant post-doctoral research may be considered at WBCSC's discretion in rarest cases.

Salary

• Entry pay at Academic Level 10: Rs. 57,700 per month
• Pay range under Level 10: Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month
• Plus DA, HRA, and other allowances as per West Bengal Government rules

Application Fee

• General candidates: Rs. 2,500
• SC / ST / OBC / EWS / PwD candidates: Rs. 1,250

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this recruitment. Selection is done through the following stages:

1. Provisional Merit Panel: Prepared on the basis of academic records, research and publications, teaching experience, interview and demonstration
2. Interview: Eligible candidates (or short-listed applicants at the Commission's discretion) will be called for interview
3. Merit-Cum-Preference Counselling: Final recommendation is based on a merit-cum-preference system where you choose your preferred college based on your rank in the merit panel
4. Document Verification: Original certificates must be shown during the interview

The cut-off date for all qualification and experience items, including publications, is 15 April 2026. Age is calculated as on 1 January 2026.

3. Fill in the online application form with your academic details, publications, and experience.
4. Upload your photograph, signature, and required documents.
5. Pay the application fee using credit card, debit card, UPI, or net banking.
6. Submit the application and take a printout for your records.
7. Bring the printed application along with self-attested photocopies of all documents on the date of interview.

Candidates applying in subjects where they did not get their Master's or Graduation degree should bring a relevance/alliance certificate from the appropriate body of the concerned university.
