West Bengal Municipal Service Commission (WBMSC) has officially released Advertisement No. 03 of 2026 for the recruitment of 41 Medical Officer (General) posts under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. This recruitment has been approved by the Government of West Bengal through the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs. Candidates holding an MBBS degree with public health experience should not miss this opportunity to join one of India's largest municipal bodies. Those with postgraduate qualifications in community medicine or public health will get preference during selection.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You must have an MBBS degree from a recognized university and be duly registered with the Medical Council.
• Preferred Qualification: If you hold a postgraduate degree such as DPH, MD (Community Medicine), or MD (Preventive and Social Medicine) from a recognized university, you will get preference.
• Experience: You need at least 1 year of experience in the practice of medicine or working experience in the field of public health.
• Nationality: You must be a citizen of India.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 37 years as on 1 January 2026.
• SC/ST (West Bengal): 5 years relaxation (up to 42 years).
• OBC (West Bengal): 3 years relaxation (up to 40 years).
• PwBD (40% and above): Upper age limit relaxable up to 45 years. SC/ST/OBC candidates of other states treated as General.
• Ex-Servicemen: Period of actual military service deducted from age, provided the resultant age does not exceed the maximum by more than 3 years.
• KMC Contractual: Age is relaxable for those who have served on contractual basis under KMC, equivalent to the period of engagement (max 3 years).
• N.B.: Age as recorded in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate will be accepted.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a basic pay starting from Rs. 56,100 per month, going up to Rs. 1,44,300 per month under Pay Level 16 of the ROPA 2019 Pay Matrix.
• You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per West Bengal Government rules.

Selection Process

The selection will be based on the following stages:

1. Written Examination: The method, scheme, and syllabus for the recruitment examination will be notified separately by WBMSC.
2. Personality Test: Candidates shortlisted from the written exam will be called for a personality test or interview.
3. Document Verification: Candidates called for verification will need to submit a Bond on Rs. 50 Non-Judicial Stamp Paper confirming they will arrange temporary lodging within the KMC area for emergency duties.

• Provide general medical care and treatment to patients at KMC health centres and dispensaries
• Handle public health programmes including vaccination drives, disease surveillance, and health awareness campaigns
• Monitor and manage outbreaks of communicable diseases within the municipal area
• Maintain proper medical records, patient registers, and submit periodic health reports
• Attend to emergency medical duties as and when required by KMC authorities
• Work in coordination with other municipal health staff and senior medical officers
