Competition Commission of India (CCI) Director General Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Competition Commission of India (CCI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has invited applications for the post of Director General in its investigation wing. The Director General heads CCI's investigative arm and plays a central role in probing anti-competitive practices, mergers, and market abuses across India. This is a senior HAG-level appointment open to serving government officers with deep expertise in investigation, law, economics, or public administration. The deputation period will not ordinarily exceed three years.

Who Can Apply?

You must be a serving officer of the Central Government or State Government. The notification sets out two eligibility routes:

Route 1 - Analogous Post Holders

  • Condition: You should be holding an analogous post (equivalent to Director General) on a regular basis in your parent cadre or department.

Route 2 - Officers in Pay Level 14

  • Condition: You should have completed at least 3 years of regular service in a post carrying Pay Level 14 (Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200) in the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, or an equivalent scale.

Desirable Qualities

  • You should be a person of integrity and outstanding ability.
  • You need experience in investigation and knowledge of one or more of the following: accountancy, management, business, public administration, international trade, law, or economics.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 58 years on the closing date of receipt of application in CCI (i.e., 20 April 2026).
  • There is no minimum age specified beyond the requirement that you must already be a serving government officer at the appropriate level.

Salary

  • Pay Level 15 (HAG Scale): Rs. 1,82,200 to Rs. 2,24,100 per month (basic pay).
  • In addition to basic pay, you will receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance at rates applicable to Central Government employees.
  • Medical reimbursement is admissible as per CCI service rules (in lieu of CGHS benefits).
  • The Director General's office in CCI is eligible for allotment or retention of government accommodation from the General Pool.
  • The fixation of pay and deputation (duty) allowance will be governed by DOP&T instructions issued from time to time.

Responsibilities

  • Head the investigation wing of the Competition Commission of India and supervise all ongoing antitrust investigations.
  • Conduct investigations into anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position, and merger violations as directed by the Commission under the Competition Act, 2002.
  • Prepare and submit detailed investigation reports to the Commission for adjudication on competition matters.
  • Exercise powers conferred upon the Commission under Section 36(2) of the Competition Act during the course of investigations.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of Deputy Directors General, Joint Directors, and other officers in the Director General's office.
  • Assist the Commission in gathering evidence, recording statements, and examining witnesses during investigations.
  • Liaise with other regulatory bodies, ministries, and state governments on matters related to competition enforcement.
