About This Job

CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata has invited online applications for 8 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) posts under Advertisement No. R&C/615/2026. Candidates who have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board are eligible. The application window is open from 05 March to 04 April 2026. Pay is at Level 1 of 7th CPC (Rs. 18,000-56,900). Selection will be through a written examination followed by document verification.

CSIR-IICB in Kolkata is hiring 8 Multi-Tasking Staff and this is a solid opportunity if you have passed your 10th standard. The institute is one of India's leading research centres under CSIR, working on chemical biology, genomics, and biomedical research. You will be joining a central government organization with all the benefits that come with it.

Key Highlights

  • 8 vacancies spread across UR (5), SC (1), OBC-NCL (1), and EWS (1) categories
  • Pay Level 1 under the 7th CPC, meaning your basic pay starts at Rs. 18,000 and can go up to Rs. 56,900
  • 10th pass candidates can apply -- having a 12th pass certificate is desirable but not mandatory
  • Age bracket is 18 to 25 years, with relaxations for reserved categories as per government rules
  • Women candidates are especially encouraged to apply, and they are exempt from the application fee
  • Includes 1 reserved slot for PwBD (Blindness and Low Vision) and 1 for Ex-Servicemen

Selection Process

The selection is entirely exam-based -- there is no interview round. You will take a competitive written examination (OMR or Computer-Based Test) covering General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and English Language. The paper carries 150 questions worth 450 marks and you get 2 hours to finish it. After clearing the exam, you move to document verification before the final appointment.

Preparation Tips

  1. Focus heavily on General Awareness and English -- these two sections together carry 300 out of 450 marks, which is two-thirds of the total
  2. Practice mental math for Quantitative Aptitude -- the standard is Class 10, so brush up on basic arithmetic, percentages, and ratios
  3. Watch out for negative marking -- every wrong answer costs you 1 mark while a correct answer gives you 3, so avoid wild guessing
  4. Take timed mock tests -- with 150 questions in 120 minutes, you have less than a minute per question, so speed matters

Documents You Will Need

  • SBI Collect e-receipt for the Rs. 500 application fee (not needed if you are in an exempted category)
  • Passport-size colour photograph and scanned signature
  • Class 10th marksheet or certificate showing your name and date of birth
  • Educational certificates and marksheets for all qualifications claimed
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD) in the prescribed Government of India format, if applicable
  • OBC Non-Creamy Layer declaration (mandatory for OBC-NCL candidates, in addition to the community certificate)
  • No Objection Certificate from your current employer, if you are already working in a government department
  • Gazette Notification or affidavit if there is any name change or mismatch

Responsibilities

  • Maintain physical records and ensure proper upkeep of the assigned section
  • Handle general cleanliness and housekeeping duties within the office premises
  • Carry files and documents between sections and deliver internal mail (dak)
  • Operate photocopying machines and assist with document reproduction
  • Open and close the section or room as per daily schedule
