National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy), one of India's top-ranked technical institutions under the Ministry of Education, is hiring 122 faculty members across 18 departments and centres. The recruitment covers all four levels of the flexible faculty structure: Assistant Professor (Grade-II), Assistant Professor (Grade-I), Associate Professor, and Professor. 86 of the 122 posts are at the entry-level Assistant Professor Grade-II cadre, making this an excellent opportunity for fresh Ph.D. holders looking to start their academic career at a premier NIT. Who Can Apply?

All applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the relevant or equivalent discipline and must have First Class in all preceding degrees. If your university did not mention first class, you need at least 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in aggregate. Your degrees must be from a recognized university or institute.

Preceding Degrees by Stream

• Engineering: B.E. / B.Tech. or equivalent AND M.E. / M.Tech. or equivalent in the relevant discipline
• Architecture: Bachelor's degree in Architecture and M.Arch. / M.Plan. or equivalent
• Sciences / Humanities / Computer Applications: B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. / BCA or equivalent UG degree AND M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Com. / MCA or equivalent PG degree
• Management: Full-time UG degree and two-year full-time MBA or equivalent
• Education: UG and PG in relevant discipline, plus B.Ed. and M.Ed.

Additional Requirements for Assistant Professor Grade-II

• Candidates should be qualified in GATE / NET / CSIR NET
• Publications in reputed journals are expected
• Excellent and consistent academic record from 10th Standard onwards

Experience Requirements (for Grade-I, Associate Professor, Professor)

Detailed qualifications, experience, and credit point requirements for higher cadres are given in Annexure-II and Annexure-III of the notification. Experience from fully funded central educational institutions, IIMs, NIRF-ranked institutions (top 50), state-funded institutions, and other NIRF-ranked institutions (top 100) is counted. Part-time, daily wage, guest faculty, or visiting faculty experience is not counted.

Age Limit

• Preferable age limit for Assistant Professor (Grade-II): 35 years for UR category
• Age relaxation for SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / PwD candidates as per Government of India norms
• The cut-off date for age calculation is the last date of online application (06 April 2026)

Salary

• Assistant Professor (Grade-II): Pay Level 10 — entry pay Rs. 57,700 per month
• Assistant Professor (Grade-I): Pay Level 12 — entry pay Rs. 79,800 per month
• Associate Professor: Pay Level 13A2 — entry pay Rs. 1,39,600 per month
• Professor: Pay Level 14A — entry pay Rs. 1,59,100 per month
• You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Central Government rules
• Additional benefits include CPDA (Rs. 1 Lakh/year), Research Seed Grant (up to Rs. 5 Lakhs), Children Education Allowance, LTC, Medical Facilities, and campus quarters with Wi-Fi

Application Fee

• General / EWS / OBC: Rs. 2,500 (excluding 18% GST)
• SC / ST / PwD: Rs. 1,250 (excluding 18% GST)
• Fee is non-refundable and must be paid online per department per post
• Candidates applying for multiple departments must submit separate applications and fees for each

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: Departments may adopt different shortlisting criteria. The process may include a written test or department-level presentation at the shortlisting stage.
2. Presentation / Seminar: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a presentation or seminar before the selection committee.
3. Interview: Final selection is based on the interview conducted by duly constituted Selection Committees. The Board of Governors (BoG) makes the final appointment decision.
4. Document Verification: All original documents including valid ID proof must be produced during the selection process and at the time of interview.

No TA/DA is paid for attending the selection process. However, PwD candidates will be paid TA/DA restricted to III A/C train fare.
