Raman Research Institute (RRI) Research Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Raman Research Institute (RRI), a premier autonomous research institute founded by Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman in 1948, has invited applications for 1 Research Assistant position under its SARAS (Shaping of Spectra by Absorption from the Radio background of All Sky) experiment. The SARAS project carries out precision measurements of the radio sky spectrum to detect signals from the earliest stars and galaxies in the universe. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge astrophysics research at one of India's most respected basic sciences institutes in Bangalore.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a B.E./B.Tech. degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or Instrumentation with at least 70% marks or 7.0 CGPA.
  • Alternate Qualification: An M.Sc. degree with Electronics specialization with at least 70% marks or 7.0 CGPA is also accepted.
  • Prior Interest: You must provide documentary evidence of prior interest in astronomy or astrophysics.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work in teams and at field stations is essential. Field trips may be required for testing radio astronomy receivers.

Desirable qualifications:

  • A valid JEST, CSIR-UGC NET, or GATE score in your specialization
  • Experience in practical night sky astronomy with telescopes
  • Knowledge of analog and digital electronics, FPGA-based systems
  • Programming skills in C, Python, and VHDL

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit: 30 years as on 20 April 2026 (last date of application).
  • Candidates aged 30 or above may be considered if they have commensurate experience and competency.
  • Age Relaxation: As per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.

Salary

  • You will receive a consolidated salary of Rs. 31,000 per month plus admissible HRA.
  • The appointment is for 1 year, extendable to 2 years based on performance and project status.

Selection Process

Selection will be done through:

  1. Screening: Applications will be screened based on qualifications, experience, and relevance to the project requirements.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The institute reserves the right to restrict candidates for interview to a reasonable limit based on qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the SARAS experiment in the domain of digital electronics and signal processing
  • Design and develop digital subsystems and state-of-the-art digital platforms
  • Participate in the characterization and testing of digital electronics hardware
  • Develop and implement digital signal processing algorithms for radio astronomy data
  • Assist with field trips for testing, validation, and deployment of radio astronomy receivers
  • Collaborate with the research team on system tests and precision measurements of the radio sky
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports on experimental findings

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

B.E./B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/ECE/Instrumentation (70% or 7.0 CGPA) or M.Sc. with Electronics specialization (70% or 7.0 CGPA)

Preferred Qualification

Valid JEST, CSIR-UGC NET, or GATE score. Experience in night sky astronomy, analog/digital electronics, FPGA systems, programming in C, Python, and VHDL.
