Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released Advertisement No. 05-Exam/2026 for the recruitment of 929 Assistant Statistical Officer and Assistant Research Officer (Statistics) posts under the Main Examination (PET-2025)/06. These posts are spread across 19 different state departments including the Economics and Statistics Department, State Tax Commissioner Office, Animal Husbandry Directorate, Training and Employment Directorate, Financial Planning Directorate, and more. Only candidates who have cleared PET-2025 and have been shortlisted for the main exam are eligible to apply. This is a major statistical cadre recruitment covering positions across the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

Who Can Apply?
- Educational Qualification: You need a Post-Graduate degree from a recognised Indian university in Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Commerce, or Economics (with Statistics as a subject). A full list of 51 accepted degree specializations is provided in the notification, covering MBA, M.Com, M.Sc. (Statistics/Mathematics/Applied Statistics), M.A. (Economics/Statistics), M.Tech, and related programs.
- Computer Knowledge: You must hold a DOEACC Society 'O' Level or equivalent Computer Science Diploma from a recognised university or institution (minimum 1 year duration).
- Language: You must have knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script.
- PET Requirement: Only candidates who have passed the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET-2025) conducted by UPSSSC and have been shortlisted for this main exam are eligible. Your PET-2025 normalised score will be used to shortlist you at 15 times the advertised vacancies per category.
- Domicile: Non-residents of Uttar Pradesh will be treated as General (Unreserved) category and will not get reservation benefits.
- Single Application: You can apply for these advertised posts only once.
Age Limit
- You should have attained the age of 21 years and should not be more than 40 years old as on 1 July of the calendar year in which vacancies are advertised.
- Age Relaxation: SC, ST, OBC, EWS and other reserved category candidates from Uttar Pradesh will get age relaxation as per UP Government rules and relevant government orders.
- Women: Female candidates get age relaxation as per UP Government Personnel Department order No. 18/1/99/Ka-2/99 dated 26-02-1999 and subsequent government orders. UP women candidates in the case of caste certificate will get it from their father's side only.
- EWS: EWS candidates get 10% reservation. EWS certificate must be for Financial Year 2025-26 or 2026-27 based on income of the year before applying (01-04-2026 to 11-05-2026).
- Ex-Servicemen: Reservation as per UP Civil Services (Reservation for Ex-Servicemen) Act, 1993.
- PwBD: Horizontal reservation for Persons with Disabilities as per government notification.
- State Government Employees: Working state government employees get 5 years age relaxation as per relevant government order.
Salary
- Most Posts (Level-6): Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month as per 7th Pay Commission pay matrix.
- Some Posts (Pay Band-2): Rs. 9,300 to Rs. 34,800 per month with Grade Pay of Rs. 4,200.
- You will also get DA (Dearness Allowance), HRA (House Rent Allowance), TA (Travel Allowance) and other allowances as per UP Government rules.

- Main Exam Fee: The main examination fee will be charged separately. Only candidates shortlisted for the main exam will need to pay it.
Selection Process
The selection is done in the following stages:
- PET-2025 Shortlisting: Candidates who cleared the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET-2025) will be shortlisted based on their normalised score. Up to 15 times the advertised vacancies per category will be shortlisted for the main exam.
- Main Written Examination: A single question paper with 100 objective (MCQ) questions for 100 marks in 2 hours (120 minutes). Negative marking of 1/4 mark (0.25) for each wrong answer.
- Document Verification: Selected candidates will be called for document verification by the respective department.
How to Apply
- Go to the UPSSSC website at upsssc.gov.in.
- Click on the "Live Advertisement Segment" on the homepage and view the notification.
- Log in through Applicant Authentication using your PET-2025 Registration Number via OTP sent to your registered mobile or email.
- Your personal details from PET-2025 will be auto-filled. Select the advertised post(s) you want to apply for.
- Select the educational qualification and enter details of your degree, roll number, institution, certificate, etc.
- Enter the Verification Code displayed on screen and click "Submit" to generate your application form with 11-digit registration number.
- View your photo and signature uploaded during PET-2025 and click "Continue".
- Fill in the "Other Details" section including seniority preferences.
- Read and accept the declaration, then click "Save and Submit".
- Pay the fee online through the payment gateway.
- After successful payment, download and print your application form for your records.
You can modify certain details in your application form through the "Modify Application" option on the UPSSSC website before the last date. The last date for modifications is 18 May 2026.

- Collect, compile, and analyse statistical data from various government departments and field offices
- Prepare statistical reports, charts, and presentations for government planning and policy-making
- Conduct surveys and census operations at the district and state level
- Assist senior officers in research projects related to economics, demographics, and social statistics
- Maintain databases and use computer software for data processing and analysis
- Coordinate with district offices and field staff for timely data collection and verification
- Monitor and verify data accuracy before submission to higher authorities
