Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under the project titled "Design and Additive Manufacturing of Lattice-Structured Hip Implant for Osteoporotic Bone: Experimental and Numerical Investigations". The project is funded by ANRF (ARG) and is based in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SMME). The principal investigator is Prof. Rajesh Ghosh, with Dr. Prateek Saxena as Co-PI. This is a great opportunity for engineering graduates who want to work on biomedical research at the intersection of additive manufacturing and biomechanics.

Who Can Apply?

• Minimum Qualification: B.Tech or BE in Mechanical Engineering / Applied Mechanics / Biomedical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering or allied areas with 60% or higher marks (or equivalent CGPA).
• GATE Requirement: You must be GATE qualified in any relevant allied area — this is mandatory for the JRF stipend.
• Nationality: Indian nationals only.
• Desirable: Prior experience or coursework in additive manufacturing, biomechanics, finite element analysis, or osteoporosis research will be an advantage.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 28 years as per standard JRF norms (relaxation applicable for OBC/SC/ST/PwD as per GoI rules).
• Age relaxation of marks may be granted to OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/PwD candidates as per Government of India norms.

Salary

• Stipend: Rs. 37,000 per month
• HRA: 10% of stipend (as applicable, making total up to Rs. 40,700 per month)
• This is a consolidated pay on a project basis. No other allowances or pension benefits apply.

Selection Process

• Assist in design and simulation of lattice-structured hip implants for osteoporotic bone applications

• Run numerical (finite element) analyses to model implant behaviour under load conditions
• Maintain detailed research logs, data records, and prepare progress reports
• Support the PI and Co-PI in preparing research papers and project deliverables
• Present research findings at group meetings and project review sessions
