PSSSB Stenotypist Recruitment 2026 - 309 Posts

Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) has released Advertisement No. 05 of 2026 for filling 309 Stenotypist vacancies in Group-B, Group-C, and Group-D services across multiple Punjab Government departments. This is one of the largest Stenotypist recruitments by PSSSB in recent years. If you are a graduate with Punjabi stenography skills, this is your chance to land a stable government job in Punjab.

Who Can Apply?

  • Educational Qualification: You must hold a Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University or Institution.
  • Stenography Skill: You need to qualify a Punjabi Stenography test at the speed specified by the Board or the Government from time to time.
  • Computer Knowledge: You must have completed at least 120 hours of computer course in Office Productivity or Desktop Publishing from a Government-recognised, ISO 9001 certified institution. Alternatively, you can hold an 'O' level certificate from DOEACC (now NIELIT).
  • Punjabi Language: You must have passed Matriculation (10th) with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects. A qualifying test of Punjabi Language (50% marks) will also be conducted as part of the selection process.
  • Domicile: Reservation benefits apply only to residents of Punjab with a valid Domicile/Residence Certificate. The certificate must not be older than 5 years at the time of counselling.

Age Limit

  • You should be at least 18 years old as on 01 January 2026.
  • General category: Maximum age is 37 years.
  • SC/BC of Punjab and Backward Class: Maximum age is 42 years.
  • Central and State Government employees: Maximum age is 45 years.
  • Physically disabled residents of Punjab: Upper age limit relaxed by 10 years (i.e., up to 47 years).
  • Widows, divorcees, and certain other categories of married women: Maximum age relaxed to 40 years.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation as per Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982.

Salary

  • Selected Stenotypists will get a salary of Rs. 21,700 per month (entry pay) under Level-2 of the 7th Pay Commission.
  • The pay range for Level-2 goes up to Rs. 63,200 per month.
  • You will also receive DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Punjab Government rules.

  • SC / BC / EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Rs. 250
  • Ex-Servicemen and Dependent: Rs. 200

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 3 stages:

  1. Punjabi Language Written Test: This is a qualifying exam. You must score at least 50% marks. The test is Objective type (Multiple Choice Questions) and will be in Punjabi. This exam tests your knowledge of Punjabi language at the Matriculation level.
  2. Punjabi Stenography Skill Test: For those who pass the written test, a Stenography skill test will be conducted. You need to take dictation at 80 words per minute. Total dictation will be 400 words (two passages of 200 words each). You will be allowed a deduction of 15 words per minute based on calculation, and up to 8 mistakes will be tolerated per passage.
  3. Document Verification: Candidates called for counselling will need to present all original documents for verification. The Board will check your educational certificates, domicile, category, age proof, and other required documents.

Note: Mistakes in the Stenography test beyond the permissible limit will lead to your name being placed lower in the merit list. If the number of errors crosses 32 (from 0 to 32 error range), your name will be placed in a special merit list and considered only if suitable candidates are not available from the regular list.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the PSSSB portal at sssb.punjab.gov.in and click "Apply Online".
  2. If you are a new user, click "Registration" and fill in your details to get a User ID and Password. Your User ID will be your Email ID.
  3. Log in using your User ID and Password, then click "Apply for Service".
  4. Fill in the online application form with your personal details, educational qualifications, and other information. Upload your live photo (captured at the time), signature, and documents.
  5. Click "Save Draft" to save, then click "Attach Annexure" to upload your 10th certificate, domicile certificate, educational qualification documents, and caste certificate (if applicable).
  6. Click "Make Payment" to pay the application fee online.
  7. Click "Submit" to finalize your application. Take a printout for your records.

You can apply only from 12 March 2026 to 02 April 2026. No other mode of application will be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Take dictation in Punjabi Stenography during meetings, conferences, and official proceedings
  • Transcribe shorthand notes into typed documents accurately and within deadlines
  • Prepare official letters, reports, memos, and correspondence for senior officers
  • Manage and organize files, office records, and confidential documents
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence and maintain dispatch registers
  • Operate computers and use office productivity software for document preparation
  • Assist officers with scheduling, communication, and administrative tasks

Exam Pattern

The selection for PSSSB Stenotypist involves two tests — a written exam and a skill test:

1. Punjabi Language Written Test (Qualifying)

  • Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • Nature: Qualifying only — marks do not count toward final merit
