RDPR Karnataka has released notification for Ombudsman posts across 12 districts in Karnataka under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Candidates who have a Graduation degree and at least 10 years of experience in public administration, law, agriculture, social service, or management can apply offline. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Karnataka Ombudsman Recruitment 2026
The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RDPR), Karnataka, through its Commissionerate of Rural Development, has invited applications for the position of Ombudsman in several district-level Zilla Panchayats. The Ombudsman role is created under the MGNREGS to handle grievances related to employment guarantee at the district level. This is a part-time contractual position with a 2-year tenure that can be extended. Ombudsman positions are available in the following 12 districts of Karnataka:

- Bengaluru Gramantara (Rural)
- Belagavi
- Bidar
- Chitradurga

- Gadag

- Kolar
- Mysuru
- Shivamogga
Each district will have one Ombudsman position. Candidates must indicate their preferred district(s) in the application.
Who Can Apply?
- Educational Qualification: You must hold a Graduation degree from any recognized university.
- Experience: You need at least 10 years of service experience in any one of the following fields:
- Public Administration
- Law
- Agriculture
- Social Service
- Management
- Community Work: Experience working with public or community organizations is mandatory.
- Clean Record: You must not have any criminal conviction or pending criminal case. You should not have been dismissed or removed from government service.
- Political Neutrality: You must not be a member of any political party or any specified organization.
- Organizational Independence: You should not be a current member of any State or National level political party, or any proscribed organization. Candidates who are members of specified organizations (as noted in the official notification) must provide a certificate of non-membership.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 66 years as on 01 March 2026.
- There is no minimum age specified, but the 10-year experience requirement effectively makes this a mid-to-senior career position.
Salary and Honorarium
- Monthly honorarium: Rs. 10,000
- Sitting fee: Rs. 2,250 per sitting
- Maximum monthly compensation: Rs. 45,000 (including honorarium and sitting fees)
- This is a part-time contractual position, not a regular government post. Allowances like DA and HRA do not apply.

Responsibilities
- Handle and resolve grievances related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) at the district level.
- Investigate complaints from workers, job card holders, and other stakeholders regarding wage payments, work allocation, and scheme implementation.
- Conduct hearings and sittings to examine grievances and pass appropriate orders within the powers granted under the scheme guidelines.
- Monitor the implementation of MGNREGS at the Gram Panchayat and Taluk levels within the assigned district.
- Prepare periodic reports on grievance resolution and submit them to the Commissionerate of Rural Development.
- Work with Zilla Panchayat officials, Taluk Panchayat officers, and Gram Panchayat members to ensure proper scheme implementation and transparency.
- Follow the guidelines issued by the Central and State governments regarding the Ombudsman role under MGNREGS.
