Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), one of Gujarat's largest and most progressive municipal bodies, has announced recruitment for 88 Planning Assistant positions. This direct recruitment aims to build a selection and waiting list for filling current vacancies in the Town Planning cadre. Both male and female candidates can apply, with vacancies distributed across all reservation categories. • Unreserved (General): 5 (Male) + 2 (Female) = 7 posts

• ST (Scheduled Tribe): 16 (Male) + 8 (Female) = 24 posts
• SEBC (OBC): 23 (Male) + 11 (Female) = 34 posts

Out of the total 88 posts, 3 vacancies are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (Divyang).

Who Can Apply?

• Educational Qualification: You need one of these degrees from a recognized university: M.Arch, M.E.(Civil), B.Arch, or B.E.(Civil). In addition, you must have a Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in City Planning, Town Planning, or Regional Planning from a recognized institute, OR you should hold membership of the Institute of Town Planners after passing its examination.
• Computer Knowledge: You must have basic computer application knowledge as prescribed under Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules 1967. A CCC certificate (from a recognized institution) or equivalent is required.
• Language: You should have adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.

Age Limit

• You should not be more than 35 years old as on 15 April 2026.
• Age Relaxation: Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/SEBC/EWS/PwD) get age relaxation as per Gujarat Government rules. The upper age limit for reserved categories with relaxation shall not exceed 45 years.
• SMC Employees: Existing Surat Municipal Corporation employees are exempt from the age limit, but they cannot exceed 45 years even with relaxation.

Salary

• During Probation (First 3 years): Monthly fixed salary of Rs. 17,500
• After Probation: Pay Matrix Level 6 — Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month
• Pay Band: Rs. 9,300 - Rs. 34,800
• Grade Pay: Rs. 4,200
• Plus DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Gujarat Government rules

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

3. Interview: Final shortlisted candidates will face a personal interview.
