NIT Warangal is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for an ANRF-funded research project on fast charging in lithium-ion cells. If you have a B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, or M.Sc in Chemistry/Physics, you can apply by email. The last date to apply is 15 June 2026 at 5:00 PM. NIT Warangal Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow position in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The project is titled "Enabling Fast Charging in Lithium-Ion Cells: Insights into Electrolyte Formulation and Interphase Chemistry" and is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) - Advanced Research Grant (ARG). The selected candidate is eligible to register for a PhD at NIT Warangal, which makes this a great opportunity for freshers planning a research career.
Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- You must have one of the following:
- B.E. / B.Tech. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant fields
- M.E. / M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and related specialisations
- M.Sc. in Chemistry or Physics
- Minimum marks: 60% or CGPA 6.5 on a 10-point scale for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL candidates; 55% or CGPA 6.0 for SC/ST/PwD candidates
- GATE/NET qualification is not mandatory
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience or interest in battery technology, electrochemical testing, electrolyte formulation, and materials characterization will be preferred
- Exposure to lithium-ion batteries, fast charging, electrode/electrolyte interphase chemistry, cell fabrication, and electrochemical data analysis is an added advantage
- Good analytical ability and scientific writing skills are desirable
Age Limit
- General: up to 30 years
- OBC-NCL: up to 33 years
- SC / ST / PwD / Female candidates: up to 35 years
- Age relaxation as per NIT Warangal institute norms
Salary
- First 2 years: Rs. 37,000 per month
- Third year: Rs. 42,000 per month
- Plus HRA as per NIT Warangal institute rules
- Duration of the fellowship is 36 months / 3 years (purely temporary, co-terminus with the project)
Selection Process
Selection happens in two stages:
- Shortlisting: The list of eligible/shortlisted candidates will be announced on the Institute website and informed via email or phone
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates must attend the interview in offline mode at NIT Warangal. Online interview may be considered only under special circumstances with prior approval. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

Responsibilities
- Conduct research on lithium-ion cells, fast charging, electrolyte formulation, and interphase chemistry
- Carry out electrochemical testing and analysis of battery cells as required by project objectives
- Support materials characterization, experimental planning, and literature review
- Prepare progress reports, presentations, manuscripts, and project documents
- Write journal papers and assist in research documentation
- Maintain accurate experimental records and follow lab safety protocols
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical/Materials/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, or M.E./M.Tech in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, or M.Sc in Chemistry/Physics. Minimum 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD).
Preferred Qualification
Prior experience in battery technology, electrochemical testing, electrolyte formulation, materials characterization, and lithium-ion battery research.
